Luis Hernandez, age 44, of Waterbury, was arrested by US Marshals on a warrant on Wednesday, Jan. 4, and charged in the 2019 murder of Miguel Lopez, age 46, in Bridgeport, said Scott Appleby, director of Emergency Management for Bridgeport.
The warrant had been obtained by the lead detective on the case, Bridgeport Det. Martin Heanue, Appleby said.
This is the second arrest in this case. His co-defendant, Jose Martinez, age 46, of Bridgeport, is currently on trial for manslaughter.
According to police, Lopez was beaten to death with a stick in front of the Mambo Grocery Store. He reportedly owed the men money.
Hernandez was charged with manslaughter and conspiracy to commit assault. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
"This was great work by all that worked on this case, specifically Detective Heanue," Appleby said.
